Venus rotates more slowly than it orbits the Sun

Venus takes longer to turn once than to circle the Sun. It spins so slowly that it finishes a full lap of the Sun before completing a single rotation. Venus rotates once every 243 Earth days relative to the distant stars, while orbiting the Sun in about 225. Its rotation is also retrograde — clockwise viewed from the north pole, meaning the Sun rises in the west. There's a catch worth knowing: the sunrise-to-sunrise “solar day” is only about 117 Earth days, because the retrograde spin and orbital motion pull against each other. The fact is only true once you specify which clock you mean. The cause of the backwards rotation is still poorly understood.
